C A V E HOME OF EARLY MAN |
| CAVE The cave is one of the key pieces in the Prehistoric scenes series, without which the large Dinosaurs cannot be linked to the Tar Pit and its surrounding models. The first edition of this kit was released in 1971, along with the Tar Pit, Allosaurus, Neanderthal Man, Cro-Magnon man and woman, the Flying Reptile and the Saber Tooth Tiger. This edition had a picture of the Allosaurus, visible throught the cave mouth, on the box. The picture was changed, by removing the Allosaurus, in later Aurora issues (1972 onwards) due to complaints that, either the picture was either historically inaccurate, or mislead customers into believing that the Allosaurus was included with the kit. The box size also changed (becoming larger) when the artwork changed. This really is a superb kit. The five part base, and three cave walls can be combined in numerous different ways, to great effect. The kit has been designed so that the addition of a second cave can allow the creation of an almost completely enclosed cave. It is also possibel to add the Cave Bear into the scene, instead of half of the second cave. The cave also comes with tool, weapons and a fire. I have heard that it is possible to mount the Flying Reptile on the cave roof. But I've tried and you can't |
