ALLOSAURUS
150 MILLION YEARS AGO
JURASSIC PERIOD
ALLOSAURUS

The Aurora Allosaurus is one of my favourite pieces, dated and
quirky, with a mouthful of saliva, ready to pounce.

It is moulded in green, and in later editions comes with yellow base
parts. The head arms, claws legs and feet are all movable.

The first edition of this kit was released in 1971, along with the Tar
Pit, Cave, Neanderthal Man, Cro-Magnon man and woman, the
Flying Reptile and  the Saber Tooth Tiger.

This edition had a picture of the Allosaurus being attacked by the
Saber Tooth on the box,  the picture was changed in later Aurora
issues (1972 onwards) due to complaints that, either the picture
was historically inaccurate, or mislead customers into believing
that the Saber Tooth was included with the kit.

Kits issued after 1972 had initially one (possibly a transitional
phase) and then two base parts included, allowing the Allosaurus
to link to the new 1972 issued  Dinosaurs.

Subsequent reissues of the Allosaurus by Revell and Monogram
appear to come without either base parts. However the absence of
the bases is not a problem since good quality resin copies of the
bases are available.
